Joomla! has released the new version of Joomla! CMS, 1.6 Alpha (this means it is for testing and not to be used on your live web sites). Just when we started getting used to Joomla! 1.5. However, as with anything else, our CMS must keep up with developments and as Joomla! 1.5 is a major improvement over the older version, so 1.6 (once the stable version is released) should also be an improvement.

We often need to embed code like javascript, forms, paypal buttons, etc. into our web pages and it can create a problem. I came across this great little component called RawContent to do the job easily. Install the component. module and two plugins and publish them. The one plug in is a button that shows below your editor to easily select the raw content you want to insert.

One of the problems when you upgrade to Joomla 1.5 is that your old urls will be giving 404 errors which is bad, not only because you are losing visitors but also for your site SEO - Google, Yahoo and those other search engines don't like 404 errors when ranking your web site. I've come across a great component to handle this once it is set up but the set up can be a bit tricky.

This what I love about Joomla! There are so many nifty and cool gadgets and widgets out there. Just when you think you've got everything you need and want you come across something else. This time it is a component that allows you to set up an ePostcard service on your web sites - your visitors can send postcards to their friends using your photos and images. Not only will this attract more people to your web site to send cards, but their friends will also visit your web site bringing you even more visitors. These postcards can be anything you want them to be: - Travel photographs for a travel or tourism web site
- Project photos for a design or building web site
- Product photos
- Whatever you want
Test it our at a site I'm working on >>http://acard2.com<<
And get your ecard component at Joomla Extensions

I felt I must share with you the versatility of the Phoca - Google AdSense Easy Module. Designed to add Google Adsense code easily to your site - just a copy and paste - I've been using it to all sorts of stuff into my site. It can be used to add javascipt and flash code into module positions too. I use it to add videos, where the Joomla embed tool cannot do it, to the my sites - simply copy and paste the embed code into the space for Adsense. I also use it to add affiliate product links where the use javascript. Play with it and see how it can work for your site.Phoca has a number of other handy Joomla components and modules too.

Have you heard of JoomlaGATor!? Well, I discovered it today. A easy to install module to put Google Analytics on your web site. Once installed simply fill in the site's Google Analytics account number and select the footer module position and it's up and running. The only schlep is that you, as always, have to set up a profile for each site with Google Analytics. Get JoomlaGaTor! here
